We’re looking forward to an exciting year at Legal & General Homes. Since we received planning consent for our first development, Buckler’s Park, in August last year, we have been working hard on site building our Visitors Centre and delivering the infrastructure needed by our new residents. This includes building new roads, installing telephone and broadband lines, and creating new electricity connections. Over 210,000m3 of building material from the demolition has been cleared from the site so far and we will recycle all of it on site, as part of our commitment to creating sustainable developments and minimising our environmental impact.
An exciting part of Buckler’s Park is the 100-acre country park, which will have woodlands, ponds and pathways. We’re busy planting over 20,000 trees so even our very first visitors will be able to enjoy the open green space. Buckler’s Country Park will be open to the wider community, as well as Legal & General Homes residents, to enjoy the heathland, glades and new wetlands where wildlife can flourish.
Our first homes are now under construction at Woodland Edge, which sits alongside Buckler’s Country Park, and will be ready for our first residents in spring/summer this year. Our Woodland Edge homes have launched for sale so, if you are interested and would like more details, you can register for information here.
At Legal & General Homes, we are committed to delivering social value. By this, we mean adding value to the local economy through creating new transport infrastructure, jobs and trade for local businesses; improving the well-being of the community by providing education and shared community facilities, and helping to protect our environment through the materials we use and the spaces we create. We have committed to monitor and measure the social value delivered, working collaboratively with the local community to understand local needs and opportunities, so we can continuously try to increase the benefit our developments bring to the local area.
This year, we will complete work on the first phase, which includes the new homes, neighbourhood glades, the brook and the new site for the Ofsted-outstanding Crowthorne Church of England Primary School. The new two-form entry school will offer modern teaching facilities for 420 pupils, with two grass football pitches and an extensive playground. The school also includes a 52-place nursery, with outdoor play areas for external learning, which will be right on the doorstep for our new residents.
We could not have reached this stage without the help of many partners, stakeholders and the local community. 2018 is shaping up to be a momentous year for Legal & General Homes and we’re looking forward to continuing the great work with partners old and new as the year goes on.
