Legal & General Homes donates £1,000 to the Royal British Legion

December 14, 2018

We recently visited the Crowthorne branch of the Royal British Legion to hand-deliver a cheque for £1,000.

It was all part of our quarterly charitable grant scheme, which launched in July 2018 with the first token donation box at our Buckler’s Park Visitors Centre. Throughout each quarter, visitors to our development on Old Wokingham Road can vote for one of three local charities to receive the largest share of the £2,000 fund.

Legal & General Homes Managing Director, John Allan, says: “Our token donation box is a fantastic way for us to support the charities that are closest to the community’s heart and we were delighted to present the cheque to the Royal British Legion this time.”

During our visit, we were given a tour of the building where the charity holds events for members including bingo, line dancing and darts and facilities include a snooker room and a green for playing play bowls during the warmer months.

We enjoyed hearing about everything the branch had achieved this year and the strong local support for Remembrance Sunday in November which marked 100 years since the end of the First World War.

John Allan continues: “The charity provides wonderful support to members and veterans of the armed forces all year round and we were pleased to hear that the donation would go towards some repairs around the building.”

Neville Campling, Vice-Chairman of the Crowthorne branch of the Royal British Legion, comments: “It’s been brilliant to be involved and to work with the Legal & General Homes team who made the application process really straightforward.

“We’re extremely grateful to everyone who used their token to vote for us at the Buckler’s Park Visitors Centre as we’re completely reliant on donations to make upgrades and improvements to the branch. We’re looking forward to using the funds to replace the lights in our lounge and bar area in the new year.”

Children’s charity, Sebastian’s Action Trust, and COATS, which supports older people living in Crowthorne, were also supported this quarter and received donations of £600 and £400 respectively from the grant.

We are always looking for charities to support with our donation box. Local registered charities are encouraged to apply by visiting our Social Value page or by emailing and requesting an application form. This quarter’s chosen charities are the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice, Home Start and the South East Berkshire Gang Show and the Buckler’s Park Visitors Centre is open 10:00am – 5:30pm every day and until 7:00pm on Mondays for those who would like to place a vote.
