Legal & General Homes supports Local Foodbank: Long Life Milk
Throughout the month of May, Bracknell office employees at Legal & General Homes have been collecting long life milk to donate to the local Crowthorne Foodbank in conjunction with World Milk Day.
In 2001, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) selected June 1st to celebrate milk worldwide. The themes this year focused on the important contributions of the dairy sector to sustainability, economic development, livelihoods and nutrition.
Crowthorne Foodbank has been running since 2012 and is a part of a nationwide network of foodbanks supported by The Trussel Trust working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. The foodbank delivers help and support to local people in crisis by providing three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food to ensure that no one in the community has to go hungry.
Employees Eleanor and Hayley from the Social Value Working Group went to deliver the collection directly to the storehouse and were given a tour by Janet and Vera, two of the volunteers.
All donated items are weighed, separated and kept in three large containers (nicknamed “flip”, “flop”, and “wellie”).
Through the office efforts, a total of 70 litres (just over 120 pints) of long life milk were donated to the foodbank to help with the shortage. Janet from the foodbank commented “70 litres is an amazing amount! It is greatly appreciated by us, as it helps to keep the shelves full, but it will be appreciated more by the clients who will be receiving it.”
